  1. Flo, any word on when the next Ketarin might become available? Just checking in for status, in case I missed something. Thanks as always for info, --appyface
  2. I'm looking for same thing... I too want the name (or name and extension) of the downloaded file on disk, sans path information, to pass to a command script that runs following the download of the new file. --appyface
  3. Yes you're right, if the information can be scraped. But most of the URLs I have a dummy variable for, is because the scrape fails as often as it works -- due to author changing format, changing the URL etc. So while imperfect, using the dummy variables at least allow me to keep track of these URLs within Ketarin. I also use a page-watching service (www.watchthatpage.com) as a backup to Ketarin, it watches a number of URLs that overlap with Ketarin, as well as some others that Ketarin doesn't manage for me. Whatever works best for each person is about as good as we can do, unless this feature is added to Ketarin someday :-) --appyface
  4. Some additional "category like" management could be very helpful. Thanks Flo! I do apologize for responding in kind. My "tone" could have been better. --appyface
  5. Hi Flo, I'll see if I can hunt up a repeatable example. I have lost my changes often enough that shouldn't be a problem given a little time. I'll get back to you on that. Thanks, --appyface
  6. Thanks for your consideration Flo! Very helpful :-)
  7. Yes I requested something very similar to this feature/new project, early on in Ketarin's development as well, this would be a really nice next step for the entire process of keeping machines up-to-date not just the repository. I too prefer to use Ketarin to keep a central repository rather than having Ketarin run on each machine and maintain a repository for just that machine. Being able to pull from/push to the appropriate apps manually, on a schedule, and/or spontaneously as they come in, would be really helpful, especially since a lot of home/small networks don't use WHS, active directory, domains, etc. that make distribution and installation simpler. Just my $0.02 USD... --appyface
  8. You are incorrect sir on all your assumptions. It is not a bug, it is a decision Flo made deliberately. Ketarin will behave differently if your configuration of Ketarin apps requires the missing data. Find the post. Case closed.
  9. I asked because it seems on the surface to be a cookie problem/issue with Ketarin. But I'm not sure... can you confirm it is more going on than just a problem with Ketarin providing cookies for this site? (I read in another post latest version has basic cookie support, yes?)
  10. OK - but what was the point of mentioning that? I still don't get what relevance or significance that has to the conversation that was taking place. Sorry. It doesn't make any sense to me. --appyface
  11. I haven't any idea what you are arguing, sorry. I came in to this thread, I saw a person had asked about easier way to rename categories . A workaround was suggested, in the form of exporting the XML, mass-updating the categories as desired, and then re-importing the XML. I simply pointed out this method *may* not result in Ketarin behaving the same as it would have, had the person not followed this workraound, because not all values are exported to XML. I stand by what I wrote. Flo has chosen to not export everything and he has written about this in at least one of previous posts here. --appyface
  12. Yes, he could do that, and it would serve to provide a montoring-only function. It's a bit of a departure from the current interface, though -- which is why I made my suggestion the way I did. The intent of my suggested enhancement is to leave the interface nearly as it is now. All I'm asking is to make specifying and checking for a URL optional, if a CIV is specified when 'check, no download' is enabled. That means I can keep the app entry in Ketarin intact including variable scrapes, download file/pathname, etc., from when it was actually downloading the file for me. If I can ever download that file again, all I might have to do is plug the URL and disable 'check, no download'. But I'm in favor of a monitoring function, regardless, that doesn't require checking a file on a server as part of the monitoring. --appyface
  13. Actually, it's a perfect example. Results may not be predictable because not all values are exported to the XML. The context of this thread is changing the category and re-importing the XML, not other tweaks to the XML. --appyface
  14. I've noticed this as well, and if you hurry it up you could lose some work. If anything 'goes wrong' and Ketarin closes on its own, or if Ketarin is canceled and it closes on its own, none of the changes made to apps during that session are saved. It appears the database may be updated only when Ketarin closes down normally? I've made many changes to apps -- new variables, scrapes, regex etc. -- then experienced a problem and Ketarin does not close down normally, all the changes I made during that session are lost. So I've learned to close and re-launch Ketarin whenever I'd like to "commit" my changes. Would be nice if there was a save/commit button somewhere, so I didn't have to exit and start Ketarin back up. This could be especially helpful if the 'cancel' feature in Ketarin can be more 'immediate' than it currently is, as Ketarin might abort depending on what was in progress when it was canceled. Just adding my $0.02 USD to your suggestion krislin :-) --appyface
  15. Yes this was a feature request I made awhile back - to be able to highlight a group of apps and update even disabled apps. Clicking "update now" button still updates all the enabled apps only. Flo offered a compromise to my request -- to update the disabled app if it is the only one that is highlighted. Otherwise highlighting a group of apps and pressing CTRL-U will skip over any disabled apps in the group. This is by design. While it would be nice to highlight a group and have the disabled apps in the group update, if Flo did that I'm pretty sure I would be responding to a post right now of someone asking why are the disabled apps included LOL. I accepted Flo's suggestion as (for me) it doesn't take too long to highlight each disabled app and update it. FWIW I use an underscore character in front of all my disabled apps' names, that makes it easy to sort them into a group to work with quickly. Category could also be used. I did ask for enabled/disabled status to be a column on screen, and that could become a sortable column without need for naming convention or category changes to the app, as disabled status comes and goes. That might be incorporated someday, it's a nice convenience though a minor one since there are a couple of workarounds. --appyface
  16. Some things (example: CIV) do NOT export to XML. (I have asked, Flo's answer is still "no"). So you will not necessarily end up with with an equivalent database except for desired category change, by exporting and re-importing, depending on how your apps are configured. Worst case you will just redownload some apps that do not need to be redownloaded, so it is not a monumental problem. Just wanted to point this out, so anyone going this route is not surprised by any change in Ketarin's behavior following re-import. --appyface
  17. I am using this 'trick' quite a bit, various sites are using redirect links to CNET etc. for several of my apps. Many of them don't change that often, it's just easier to use Ketarin to monitor only, and go download them manually whenever they do change. Making this enhancement to Ketarin would make monitoring very straightforward and simple. Thanks krislin for adding your vote! I believe Flo is busy on other projects ATM but perhaps he'll come back to considering this one for us sometime soon. --appyface
  18. Still can't get Ketarin to download from Sun's download center. This is the closest I've gotten so far. Latest error message in Ketarin: Login failed. You must enable cookies in your browser and then click on the Reload button to continue. Ideas on what we can do with this, if anything? XML of an example (a JRE download) is below. Thanks and regards, ---appyface P.S. Please, no suggestions on how to get the file from another site. I'm specifically focused on getting Ketarin to work with Sun's site, if possible. <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-16"?> <Jobs> <ApplicationJob xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema" Guid="4166dc20-f2c0-4a16-a75e-f8ab1b6f6bfc"> <DownloadBeta>Default</DownloadBeta> <DownloadDate xsi:nil="true" /> <CheckForUpdatesOnly>false</CheckForUpdatesOnly> <VariableChangeIndicator /> <CanBeShared>true</CanBeShared> <ShareApplication>false</ShareApplication> <ExclusiveDownload>false</ExclusiveDownload> <HttpReferer /> <Variables> <item> <key> <string>UrlOfForm</string> </key> <value> <UrlVariable> <RegexRightToLeft>false</RegexRightToLeft> <VariableType>RegularExpression</VariableType> <Regex>Java SE Runtime Environment.+?"(https://.+?)"</Regex> <Url>http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp</Url> <Name>UrlOfForm</Name> </UrlVariable> </value> </item> <item> <key> <string>ActionUrl</string> </key> <value> <UrlVariable> <RegexRightToLeft>false</RegexRightToLeft> <VariableType>RegularExpression</VariableType> <Regex>action="(.+?)"</Regex> <Url>{UrlOfForm}</Url> <Name>ActionUrl</Name> </UrlVariable> </value> </item> <item> <key> <string>FinalUrl</string> </key> <value> <UrlVariable> <RegexRightToLeft>false</RegexRightToLeft> <VariableType>RegularExpression</VariableType> <Regex>value="(http.+?)"</Regex> <PostData>VVA_CGpcrYAOYRSioFdZOIihIJJJ=Windows&VVA_EZgJuGXIecpyhSdemJBAOFSk=Multi-language&ProductUUID=%7bProductUUID%7d&LICENSE-%7bProductUUID%7d=on</PostData> <Url>{ActionUrl}</Url> <Name>FinalUrl</Name> </UrlVariable> </value> </item> <item> <key> <string>ProductUUID</string> </key> <value> <UrlVariable> <RegexRightToLeft>false</RegexRightToLeft> <VariableType>RegularExpression</VariableType> <Regex>name="ProductUUID" value="(.+?)"/></Regex> <Url>{UrlOfForm}</Url> <Name>ProductUUID</Name> </UrlVariable> </value> </item> <item> <key> <string>vers</string> </key> <value> <UrlVariable> <RegexRightToLeft>false</RegexRightToLeft> <VariableType>RegularExpression</VariableType> <Regex>(?<=>JRE ).+?(?=<)</Regex> <Url>http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp</Url> <Name>vers</Name> </UrlVariable> </value> </item> </Variables> <ExecuteCommand /> <ExecutePreCommand /> <Category /> <SourceType>FixedUrl</SourceType> <PreviousLocation>D:\Stuff\filestore\Microsoft_general\jre-6u14-windows-i586-p.exe</PreviousLocation> <DeletePreviousFile>false</DeletePreviousFile> <Enabled>false</Enabled> <FileHippoId /> <LastUpdated xsi:nil="true" /> <TargetPath>D:\Stuff\filestore\Microsoft_general\</TargetPath> <FixedDownloadUrl>{FinalUrl}</FixedDownloadUrl> <Name>_ Java (JRE) using POST</Name> </ApplicationJob> </Jobs>
  19. FWIW I don't have a favorite, exactly... I use search engines that are optimized for the material I'm interested in. Wolfram Alpha is the one I use the most often, because it targets my typical areas of interest. For generalized searches, I use two or three and review hits from all. Google, Yahoo and Ask I use most often. Bing blows. --appyface
  20. Yes... sort of. In the referenced thread, CybTekSol originally mentioned this but in the context of being able to bypass the proposed limitations on Ketarin. It morphed from there, into something very much like your request here. Nonetheless, this thread did not discuss whether your request was new, old, different or same... so I'm still confused as to what the point was of bringing the other thread in here. No matter. Flo added this feature and that's all I care about. Works a treat! :-)
  21. Thanks Flo, I did do just that and the traffic to Ketarin is completely different from the traffic to Orbit or IE8. But I have no idea why that would happen... any clues?
  22. Hi Flo, Do you have any thoughts on what is happening here? As mentioned I can very easily download with IE8 or Orbit Downloader, and I don't even need a referer. Thanks, --appyface
  23. Comment on what? I posted in here two months ago, just noticed Flo had added the feature, and I came back here to thank him, that's all. What you've posted in response to that still doesn't make any sense to me, sorry.
  24. Hmm don't know if this is related or completely different issue... The above XML does now come up with the disk filename I'm expecting to see. But the downloaded file is actually a 3mb webpage and not the 8.8mb exe I was expecting? If I copy/paste the URL Ketarin gets from {skimurl} into a browser (IE8) or Orbit Downloader (2.8.14), both download the 8.8mb exe. With Orbit it works with no referer, so I tried erasing Ketarin's referer but that didn't change it. What am I overlooking? TIA for ideas, --appyface
