appyface
If you're not logged in to CNET you download a "CNET downloader" exe for the app instead of the app. I don't know if this true for all CNET downloads but it seems to be true for all of mine: Example here: http://download.cnet.com/PicPick/3000-2192_4-75072925.html?tag=mncol;

floele
Does not look like it. Seems more like a scam from cnet to be forced to install their crap (which I assume it is) downloader.

Tomorrow
Download.com wraps downloads in bloatware, lies about motivations http://www.extremetech.com/computing/93504-download-com-wraps-downloads-in-bloatware-lies-about-motivations
floele
Authors must opt-out to these download wrappers, which I did for CDBurnerXP already (even though they violated the CDBurnerXP licence terms and I would not actually be required to take manual action). Really a huge scam in my opinion.
Tomorrow
I recently installed and app that i had on my list going back a year or so.But i hadnt used it over half a year. What i found after silent install was Ask.com toolbar installed. So during the time i did not use it this was added. Thankfully i had a planned OS clean install next day so i didn't bother fully removing it.Atleast the timing was good.
