No it still doesn't install anything if "Do not download:check for updates only" is enabled. I pasted log and Firefox XML below (just in case it is helpful)

Apparently, yes. Below you have 2 sucessful install jobs, one done from context menu, the other selecting Firefox from list of applications to install and pushing button. However on first run (i didn't kept logs as i though i could reproduce issue) eg, after unpacking b7 to my previous Ketarin folder, running install from context menu caused an error and from list caused Firefox to be updated. Not sure what the problem was, for the moment i cannot reproduce it but i'll report it if it occurs again.

BTW i'm assuming i can run Beta 7 to test experimental features from http://ketarin.canneverbe.com/forum/viewtopic.php?pid=4230#p4230

Okay, i reproduced it and i think problem above is related to changing drive unit / location from D: to C: (Virtual Machine). Using the first XML causes SAS to be downloaded, the second works fine. XML

I'm a little confused now.

Using the first XML causes SAS to be downloaded, the second works fine

What is the difference?

Can you maybe give the detailed step necessary to reproduce the problem? And which error occurs exactly?

Sorry i forgot to add setup instruction to that job, so i updated XML above (i also removed the 2nd XML since you will be able to reproduce it)

1. Download an older Superantispyware (SAS for short), for instance http://www.filehippo.com/download_superantispyware/7901/

2. Place file on HDD root in a folder named "{root}USB-Toolkit\Install\"

3. Import the XML above and run install via context menu or via install button

4. SAS will be updated (this is the error) and than installed .

5. Uninstall SAS and close Ketarin

6. Copy the older SAS to the same "{root}USB-Toolkit\Install\" as before

7. Open Ketarin and run job again via "install option" in context menu

8. SAS will be immediatly installed (no update occurs).

When importing, "PreviousLocation" will be lost. Means: File is missing (or unknown). Thus Ketarin is forced to update in order to get the file. The second time, it is not necessary, as the location is known and the file exists.

Flo... I've had little time to test Ketarin in the last 11 days (as described in another post)... but I have noticed that:

1) The 'Edit Variables' window NO LONGER JUMPS to regex match... intentional? I will miss this if so...

2) The 'Information required' window when importing a template has a random screen placement which is annoying for me. Can this be changed to default to centered or a set x,y? ALSO, please consider making this resizable to make long placeholder inputs easier to read.

3) This one is a little more difficult to explain, but here goes... I have several apps based on a template that has a variable for the 'Contents from URL' that is appended with files/ as such {AppURL}files/ and it will load the first time but not the second. Ketarin will fail and says it needs to be closed. :( They have not had a problem in the past and the syntax is correct. I use this convention for sites other than Sourceforge also...

An example: {AppURL} = hxxp://sourceforge.net/projects/staxmedia/ and therefore {AppURL}files/ would be hxxp://sourceforge.net/projects/staxmedia/files/

This leads me to a request for caching of a page during a individual app's update to limit subsequent hits on a server that we discussed a long time ago when my IP was banned from FreewareFiles.com if my memory serves me correctly... Is this possible?

THANKS as always Flo... Ketarin has come a long way and is now a MUST HAVE application for everyone with a PC (not just us geeks) IMHO!!

Than you need to build that SAS job localy. I talked of "import" because i though it was the same. But I have reproduced the issue another way, maybe more relevant since this is actually what i do:

A. I have Ketarin and all my updated jobs in my local drive, C:

B. Than i sync all that content to USB stick;

C. Than i plug USB stick into another machine, (say drive F: is atributed);

D. I run a Ccleaner update --> Ketarin identifies if file is updated (it is) and skips download

03-10-2010 22:48:03: Update started with 1 application(s)

E. I run a Flash update --> Ketarin identifies if file is updated (it is) and skips download

F. I run a Firefox update --> Ketarin identifies if file is updated (it is NOT) and skips download because i choose "do not download"

03-10-2010 22:32:12: Update finished

G. I run a Firefox install --> like the jobs above i expected Ketarin to locate the existing file, verify if it's updated, since i choose "do not download" to skip download if outdated, and proceed to install ASAP. Problem is, an update occurs even though i told Ketarin to skip it. Something is not quite right here..

Can't reproduce the issue. Maybe you can just copy and paste the error you get? And if that does not help, the XML file of the app?

@josh: That's a problem that does not actually have an easy solution. Ketarin only knows the last path of a file, say "F:\...". If the drive letter changes to "G:\" Ketarin won't find the file. The "current" name can, however, only be determined while doing an update, because variables might need to be resolved. The only solution that could work in my oionion is to also remember the relative path and try this instead of the absolute one.

Paths relative to Ketarin directory? Okay, not a problem for me... not that it matters, but it still confuses me why variables ARE resolved during an update job and NOT during an install job since a similar update check is performed.

Hm, seeing as this has been the general thread. Out of curiosity could you implement a 'priority' queue?

An optional field where you can put certain application in an order and those that are blank are just done in sequential order of the current sorting.

So like you could label a program priority 1, and another 2. This helps for things like 7-zip/Uniextract where you sometimes need them to be dl/installed before anything else as they are integral to the setup commands.

Plus if people use things like Nircmd or whatever.

Just a simple addition that i'm sure would bring a lot of benefit.

Also, THE HELL IS UP WITH SOURCEFORGE?! It's being a bastard again. I tried the user/pass thing so I made an account but now ketarin is telling me wrong user/pass! grrrr

Hope it's not to late to input some recommendations for Beta?

- When only one application exists and is removed then Ketarin shows text "Loading applications..." instead of "No applications have been added yet.".A Ketarin restart is required to show correct info.

- The "Installing Applications" dialog box is not resizeable yet is maximizeable which is odd.

- Automatically expand "Show details" in "Installing Applications" dialog box.Leave option to manually hide details if the users wants or use some setting to remember user choice and always use that view.

- Allow repositioning of install groups(up/down).

- Allow repositioning of apps inside an install group(up/down)

- Add option "copy to clipboard" in "Installing Applications" dialog box.

So as you can see most of my issues are with the behaviour of the "Installing Applications" dialog box.

Use start if needed, i have an unatended install when it's mandatory to install 3 MSIs in sequence and i do this whithout issues using this method.

It is possible for Ketarin to parse the url found to an external application?

Entirely depends on the external applications. If the application supports it, Ketarin can certainly pass on the downloading process, but then there won't be any status, post download commands or anything because Ketarin cannot track the completion.

If you do some research on apps like JDownloer and find out the command line parameters, I can certainly look into implementing it.

Been thinking about this myself ... what i miss here is a "Execute the following command if an update is available" box ... maybe i'm dreaming again :)

I will explain a little:

1st - Since i want to see if any errors occur i have to always manually expand the dialog via this button.Alternate behaviour would be to expand the dialog when warning occurs(yellow) or error occurs(red). This would be user customizeable. So if nothing goes wrong then a simple progress indicator will suffice.

2nd - There are custom install groups that i use more often then others so i always have to scroll to bottom since new groups are added to the bottom while default ones are sorted alphabeticly.

3rd - This is purely for custom install order.I think this and the reason why was mentioned before in here somewhere.

4th - When something goes wrong an you want to make a quick forum post(yes thats me lol) then it could come handy.I am aware that you can copy to clipboard from log but my log output is 200+KB so it's not so straightforward to search the entire install sequence there and pice it together.

Resizeability i wanted because more often than not messages are hidden by box border.

EDIT:

By the way some of my downloads stopped working and at first i was at loss as to wth is going on.Added referer to all - this fixed some of them. Then on a hunch added my Firefox useragent and voila.Everything works again.Funny that these downloads worked fine before and i needed to add UA shortly after this option was added to Ketarin :D

I meant for how Ketarin process' apps. Not install order or anything, i.e. when you do an 'update all' job or any batch of jobs it will prioritize whatever has the highest value first and the remainging items without a value will just be processed in the current sort order

Also can someone post a working sourceforge job? I'm having difficulty getting mine back into shape

2nd - There are custom install groups that i use more often then others so i always have to scroll to bottom since new groups are added to the bottom while default ones are sorted alphabeticly.

If you have so many lists, and resizing the dialog does not suffice, wouldn't it suit you better to have an alternative view mode like "details" instead of "tile view"?

3rd - This is purely for custom install order.I think this and the reason why was mentioned before in here somewhere.

Install order will be addressed at a later point.

Yes this would suit me too.

Oh, also. Anyone care to share why this doesn't download? It used to, now it just gives a 406 error. I somewhat think it is the useragent that Ketarin uses. As EVERYTHING else is fine, the link is fine etc etc.

I found out that it is not actually a cookie issue. Seems likely, that it is a bug in the webserver or some incorrect configuration. I will come up with a solution in the first version after 1.5 :)
