twig123
Hey all, My first post here! I just started using Ketarin and found that this is a VERY useful program!!! I have several applications setup already, but I'm trying to setup Ketarin to download McAfee SuperDAT files and I am running into a brick wall. The page seems to use Java to load the file names for the downloads, so when I load the site on the variables screen it does not list the actual content of the page. The site is: http://www.mcafee.com/apps/downloads/security_updates/superdat.asp?region=us&segment=enterprise It also makes you click "I Agree" before entering, and then the download is listed as "sdatxxxx.exe" I would be very greatful for any assistance. Thank You in advance.
CybTekSol
Try to work with this page: http://www.scanwith.com/McAfee_SuperDAT_Update_download.htm There is no agreement required and it links to the same download. Update: @twig123, I successfully created an app entry for the SuperDAT download from that URL in little over a minute. If you have any problems, let me know and I will post the exported XML for it. twig123
Thanks for the heads up on that Alt. download page. I should be able to work it from there. Any idea if support for pages like I listed will be supported in future builds?
CybTekSol
Any idea if support for pages like I listed will be supported in future builds?I feel confident Flo will do everything possible to broaden Ketarin's abilities in the future. It has already revolutionized my 'geek' life... anything else is 'icing on the cake' for me.
floele
This would basically mean the possibility to submit POST data along with URLs. Not sure how much of importance I should assume for that feature.
CybTekSol
This would basically mean the possibility to submit POST data along with URLs. Not sure how much of importance I should assume for that feature. I agree that POST data... etc. is NOT a significant issue for me right now as I have always been able to find an alternate solution. What does concern me is that it appears that this is becoming more prevalent which will probably lead to some apps that simply cannot be handled with Ketarin at some point in the future. Then it will become more important to me.
FranciscoR
I second that.
FranciscoR
Flo, I sketched my top 10 wish list, the above new feature cames in #2, I guess I'm more interested than I first thought. - Major new features: 1. Multi-threaded DLs (=Stalker) 2. POST data with URLs 3. Right-to-left match mode 4. FTP/HTTP redirection support 5. Alternate URLs - Minor new features: 6. Option to dump log to HDD in the end of session 7. Template GUI 8. Filesize column in GUI 9. Use functions with regexfield 10. Use match groups with regexatribute It would be nice to know what you currently think about that, and if possible, to know your personal plans for Ketarin in a short-medium term, nothing about that on ohloh... floele
Good to have such a list...what is 9 and 10?
Stalker
May I been as bold and persistent as to suggest to add automatic {appname} population on template instantiation there too ? In the Minor Features of course I really, really miss this features as a lazy person I am.
FranciscoR
9-10 are there for 'consistency' reasons but for me they are NOT a priority because we already have alternatives. Example #9 <VariableType>RegularExpression</VariableType> <Regex>http://({durl:regex:(ghisler\.fileburst\.com/.+?)(\d.*?)?\.zip:1}(?:\d.*?)?)\.zip(?=")</Regex> Example #10 <VariableType>RegularExpression</VariableType> <Regex>(?<=<placeholder name="Download URL" regex="(ghisler\.fileburst\.com/.+?)(\d.*?)?\.zip:2"/>.+?<strong>).*?(\d{1,2}\.?\d{1,4}\.?\d{0,4}\.?\d{0,4}\.?\d{0,4}\.?[a-z]{0,5})(?=<)</Regex> Back again on the POST data with URLs subject: I can use this feature right now for my local tax software, which is also behind a Java trap and it is not available anywhere else. Like CybTekSol says, for 95% of DL's we can find an alternative, but for the remaining 5% we cannot. BUT the alternative can be worst than the source DL: because it may not be updated often, because the original DL has to be uploaded to another server and can be corrupted. Softpedia is an excellent example of this, they have thousands of DLs which are not updated often. That's why I needed to create a Portable Chrome Template, because Softpedia didn't work for this DL. In the past I have also downloaded a corrupted Antivir from Softpedia so right now I DL only from Avira server, that also allows me to verify MD5: here too, Softpedia didn't work and it doesn't provide MD5 to verify security DLs. So for me the alternatives available aren't always the best solution. I think I'm interested in this new feature mostly because of pages that use Java (others have provided other examples, available in the forum) which are still 100% unhandled. But overall, I think there's a general and legitimate interest in this, even if not clearly expressed in this thread. FranciscoR
Flo, I have updated my idea (english) on post #11. Question: this POST data option would also allow us to handle sites such as Rapishare or Megaupload without delays, would it not ? I think Free Download Manager and Orbit use a similar method, I definitely vote YES !!! =)
floele
Nope, it would not. Megaupload and others still use captchas, and Ketarin can't solve them.
FranciscoR
Yeah, with FDM and Orbit upon the first DL I have to insert captcha, but to redownload/update I don't have to insert nothing else again. I was hoping for a similar feature... but I think most of these DL managers also uses cookies.
FranciscoR
Nope, I have cleaned FF cache and uncheck "use cookies" and I can still redownload. I wonder why Ketarin always complaints "it's not a binary file" with the same URL and referer...?
CybTekSol
FranciscoR's 1,2,3,4 is at the top of my wish list Flo, only the order for me is 2,4,3,1.
FranciscoR
Hehehe. =D So I was not the only one changing it's mind. POST data... is NOT a significant issue for me right now Edited March 15, 2009 by FranciscoR
CybTekSol
@FranciscoR, It's definitely beginning to annoy me having to look for alternative sources for such apps which are sometimes VERY difficult to find... recently I had to sort through eight or so Google pages to find a suitable one. Sometimes, I don't have the luxury of time to devote to the process.
FranciscoR
Yep, that's another point of view.
CybTekSol
@FranciscoR, Obviously... I was trying to be 'politically correct' (so to speak) in my post that 'POST data' was not currently a significant issue for me (trying not to step on Flo's toes). I CAN SEE it becoming a significant pain in the near future if the trend continues, but I'll patiently await Flo's decision to address it as for me there are NO ALTERNATIVES for Ketarin.
