File rename, timeouts, error on ftp and wrong version on download

This is my first post here at the forum, so first of all, congratulations on Ketarin. It is most useful and time-saving, I enjoy it a lot and it seems very stable. I just unninstalled Filehippo UC and Updatestar. I have created a customized XML file with more than 50 apps, and everything is running OK. However, I have some rebel apps that just don't want to update:

 

1 - When I try to download Altiris SVS, *.zip file is renamed to *.zip: (Ketarin adds (). If I download it from FF or IE, there's no rename. Download link: http://www.svsdownloads.com/download_svs.php

 

2- I'm unable to download Blacklight with FTP, isn't it supported ? http://www.f-secure.com/security_center/

 

3- While trying to download Adobe Reader Lite (MajorGeeks) and OpenOffice Portable (Sourceforge), I'm getting timeout errors although I have a 30 sec timeout. http://files6.majorgeeks.com/files/fdfa751b918c18909cd3a8602423748c/office/ar9lite_eng.exe ; http://puzzle.dl.sourceforge.net/sourceforge/portableapps/OpenOffice_Portable_2.4.1_en-us.paf.exe

 

4- If I download Silverlight from Filehippo, with the global setting "avoid beta versions", I get v1.0, which is most usefull right now. So while I have that setting on (99%), I cannot update Silverlight (a individual setting to avoid betas and alfas would be most usefull).

 

5- I've been trying to download Synctoy with Ketarin, without sucess. MS does not provide a direct download link, I've also been looking at the page code, but the request is redirected, so I'm out of ideas. 6- Although I downloaded Ketarin-0.9.9.4.zip, program help says it's version 0.9.3.0. Is this correct ?

I added a couple of fixes for 1 and 2.

 

3: The first link does not exist, the second link times out for me even in Firefox.

4. Yep, has been requested already.

5. Actually, the URL is hidden in the source code, like at

1 & 2- Will you be updating them in a next release ?

 

3- Mh, I see what you mean, I haven't tried to download like that. Those urls are direct links provided by Majorgeeks and Sourceforge pages, http://majorgeeks.com/Adobe_Reader_Lite_d5915.html ; http://sourceforge.net/project/downloading.php?groupname=portableapps&filename=OpenOffice_Portable_2.4.1_en-us.paf.exe&use_mirror=mesh (OO "installer" download will popup).

But I'm not sure on how to proceed here. If I chose one of the mirrors provided, for instance http://majorgeeks.com/downloadget.php?id=5915&file=10&evp=ac4ebf3626f3401c113c78cf6297c7d9 , Ketarin gives me

and this output error is the reason why I used the static direct links. What am I doing wrong ?

5- Thanks, I see now. I confirmed adress and inserted it in URL box, but Ketarin is giving me this message:

7- (new) If I export 1 XML file with ALL the apps, will I be able to use it in another machine, through Ketarin XML import ?

3: This won't work, because it is a client side redirection. I don't currently know if there is a way to download from MG, but I don't have the time to figure out a way for each and every website people throw at me

5. That is because there is lots of %f2 within the URL, which should be replaced by /

7. Yes, you should. But you could copy the database file as well.

4- Also OK with 0.9.9.6.

3+5- Yes, I understand. I will keep trying, replacing %f2 with / also does not work for me.

7- Sucessfully imported jobs.db to another machine, it would be nice to have a global setting to change target folder.

You need to replace all %XY with the corresponding decoded chars. For example, the URL above should start with http://

Not sure if I am experiencing the same problem as #3 in discussion above (303 - redirect)?

 

I have this download URL:

http://midiox.com/zip/DeskInstU.msi

 

Ketarin will not download from this URL, I receive:

The downloaded file is not a binary file type (text/plain). Possibly there is an error page. Status code: 303 (RedirectMethod) (http://www.midiox.com/zip/DeskInstU.msi)

 

I can download directly from this URL by copy/paste directly into IE URL address line, also can directly copy/paste into Orbit downloader and FDM downloader. In the case of the latter two there is no referrer or session cookie, I can't find any reason for this url not to work straight away in Ketarin.

The file is served incorrectly. It is served as text/plain, not as binary file. Thus, Ketarin (correctly) assumes that it is not a setup package. As a workaround, I might let it only check for "text/html", since text/plain is not used for error messages.

That sounds like a good workaround, thanks.

 

If that proves to be problematic, perhaps a checkbox in individual download entry properties in Ketarin, to override and allow any file type just for that entry? Then if Ketarin doesn't download what I wanted, it's on me :-) But first let's see if globally allowing text/plain causes any problems for others...

I've been able to download from Majorgeeks with a procedure similar to Example 3: Monitor Firefox, but Majorgeeks changes file location and not file version. Example with Adobe Reader Lite:

Click on Variables.

Press Enter or click the +-Button. Enter “file”.

For “Contents of URL” enter the direct download page url:

Press Load.

In the field below, enter “d7524e44b42e52a688f6b5cc14bb3006” and press Find.

Define “Use selection as start” and “Use selection as end”, and that's it, error message is gone !
